Last night I read two interesting articles that dealt with the power of mental reinforcement. The two articles discussed the important of believing in yourself. Success, from the authors’ point of view, is a self-manifesting prophecy. There’s a theory that positive affirmations create neural pathways in the brain that help you achieve your goals. This theory stems from a psychological tool calledNeuro-lingustic Programming (NLP) So what does this mean? The two authors suggest that personal change is not just physical, but also mental. Hence, to achieve personal fitness goals, it is important to train your mind for success. The main way to do so is to constantly pump yourself up through positive affirmations and to focus on your goals each day. The key is to visualize how you would look, act, and feel once you have attained your goals, as opposed to being hung up on your current state.
